25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

St. Mary’s Celebrates 90 Years

Anniversary LogoThis weekend marks the beginning of the 90th Anniversary celebrations for St. Mary’s Parish as well as the 75th Anniversary of Redemptorist service to the parish. The significance of taking time to celebrate the history of a parish follows the ancient tradition of the Judeo-Christian story.

New beginnings were always marked by:

1. REMEMBERING: That is, recounting the saving events of God in the past,

2. RESTORING: That is, a mark of hope that God is active and Grace is evident in our present time, and

3. RENEWING: That is, renewing our commitment, both individually and as a faith community to the Vision of Jesus Christ.

The Anniversary Committee has chosen as its theme: “I am with you always.” This is the promise of Jesus after his commissioning of the disciples in the Gospel of Matthew. What does it mean to have Jesus promise this?

We look to Remember how he committed himself to a life of self-giving love, even to death on the cross for us.

We look to Restore our hope in a God who raised Jesus from the dead and continues his saving work on earth today.

We look to Renew our commitment to Jesus and to His church, especially in this faith community called St. Mary’s Parish.

Deacon Bob Williston

UNITING IN FAITH UPDATE This past summer, we distributed pledge forms and surveys to all parishioners of St. Mary’s, so that you could make a pledge to the Cathedral and Pastoral Centre Campaign if you so desired. We asked that your survey be returned to the parish office, even if you chose not to contribute. We are asking all parishioners, if you have not already done so, to return the completed surveys to the parish at this time. We will begin calling all parishioners who have not returned the survey within the next few weeks. Thank you for your support!

MINISTRY OF CARE Something to think about… very soon we will hold a meeting to discuss and brainstorm ideas for a Grief & Bereavement Ministry. If this is an area in which you would like to participate, please call Iris at 244-2983, ext. 237 and let me know. I welcome your ideas, thoughts and suggestions. We will determine if there is enough interest to go forward with this meeting. Watch the bulletin for further information. Thanks for all you do!
